We recently lead a Corporate Cultural Walk with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), beginning with a Smoking Ceremony in Narre Warren, sitting in reflection by Lysterfield Lake, and finishing with a gentle walk through Churchill National Park.
It was a day of connection, learning, and deep respect for Country, an opportunity to walk together, listen, and remember the stories held in the land beneath our feet.
For organisations like TAC, these experiences carry powerful meaning. As a Victorian Government organisation dedicated to improving community safety and wellbeing, TAC’s work extends beyond road safety, it’s also about caring for people, community, and place.
Engaging in Cultural Walks and Ceremonies on Boonwurrung Country strengthens this connection. It reminds us that true leadership and responsibility start with acknowledgment of Country, of story, and of the First Peoples who continue to care for it.
When corporate teams take the time to walk on Country, they:
- Learn the true history of the places they work and live
- Build empathy and cultural awareness within their teams
- Strengthen relationships between community, organisation, and Country
At Biik Bundjil, we believe these shared experiences are essential for reconciliation in action. By walking together, we create the space for truth-telling, understanding, and growth, values that align deeply with TAC’s mission to build a safer, more compassionate Victoria.
We thank the TAC team for joining us on this journey and for their commitment to walking respectfully with First Peoples and Country.
