Building Respect from the Ground Up: Sharing Culture with St Kilda Junior Football Club

We came together with the St Kilda Junior Football Club for their Indigenous Round. The deadly design on the jerseys was created by brother of Jaedan Williams Briggs, Ngarra Kulin, and it was incredible to see the next generation wearing culture on their chests with pride.

Moments like these go far beyond sport. They plant seeds of understanding, empathy and truth, that grow into lasting respect.

Why Cultural Education Matters for Our Youth

When young people experience First Peoples culture firsthand, they don’t just learn about history, they feel it.
They begin to see how the world around them has been shaped by thousands of years of connection to Country. They learn what it means to walk gently, to respect difference, and to listen deeply.

Teaching Indigenous culture at a young age helps dismantle ignorance before it takes root, building empathy and understanding so that the next generation doesn’t grow up disconnected or misinformed. When children learn the truth about this land, its First Peoples, and our shared history, they become adults who value respect, inclusion and reconciliation.

Culture in Every Corner of Community

Sport is one of the most powerful spaces to bring these lessons to life.

A Smoking Ceremony before a match, a story shared in the changerooms, or a jersey that celebrates First Peoples art, these experiences remind us that culture belongs everywhere. They remind players, families and communities that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture isn’t something of the past, it’s still present.

At Biik Bundjil, we believe in bringing these moments of learning and connection into every corner of society, from classrooms and boardrooms to football fields and festivals.

Our programs, workshops and ceremonies help create a deeper understanding of Boonwurrung culture and the significance of our Shared History — inspiring young Australians to grow with open hearts and minds.
